Online Coursework

The Texas EMS School’s online learning environment emphasizes content – not class time. Our courses are developed using adaptive learning technologies that assess what you already know and provide extra help for areas in which you need it most. That means that you can move forward as you master concepts and spend more time on content that addresses your weaknesses.

The online content for the EMT course must be completed in 18 weeks, however, many students complete the work in a shorter period of time. Motivation is essential to success in an online course, and the EMT course is gamified — which is a fancy way of saying that our team finds ways to celebrate your successes and provides you with rewards along the way.

Don’t misunderstand, this is a rigorous course and it will stretch you, but if you find yourself struggling with a subject, we’re here to help. Simply schedule an online tutoring session with one of the instructors. When it comes time to prepare for the NREMT EMT Cognitive Examination, we will provide you with multiple opportunities to complete a nationally standardized readiness exam which can predict your success on the National Registry Exam. The “practice” exams will give you the confidence you need to succeed at your exam for licensure.

If you have a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, you have the basic tools you need to get started.

Hands-On Skills Labs

During the hands-on Skills Lab, you’ll have an opportunity to practice, receive feedback on, and demonstrate your EMT psychomotor skills. You’ll also have access to our video-based skills training library, online resources, and experienced EMT instructors to help you feel confident in your EMT skills.

To complete this portion of the program, you’ll be required to attend a two-day Skills Lab conducted by Texas EMS School. Contact a student services advisor to find out about dates and locations that may work best for you.

Clinical and Field Experiences

You’ll participate in Clinical Experiences and Field Experiences at first-responder organizations and major hospitals in Texas. During this phase of the program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and have an opportunity to put your skills into practice through real patient contact, while guided by experienced EMS and medical personnel.
