Australia Post is a widely known Australian brand that also offers customisable travel insurance. To keep things simple, it gives you the choice of 3 plans: International Comprehensive, Basic International and Domestic.
Each policy can be purchased for a single trip, or several trips in the course of a year (Annual Multi-trip).

The insurer of this product is Zurich Australian Insurance Limited. It comes with a cooling-off period of 21 days and choice of standard excess for international plans.
These are some of the main insured events that Australia Post may cover you for if something does go wrong on your trip. Some of these inclusions are only available for certain levels of cover (e.g. the comprehensive policy versus the basic policy).
As well as the benefits explained above, you can use the following options to vary your cover where necessary. Generally, these variations will attract an increased premium.
All insurance plans have their own set of circumstances where you won't be covered. Generally, Australia Post will not pay your claim if it relates to:
Make sure you review Australia Post's PDS for a detailed breakdown of what won't be covered, found under its list of general exclusions.

Australia Post's travel policies are nothing to sneeze at. You'll find generous limits that rival even our best travel insurance picks, especially if you're looking for comprehensive cover when hiring a car. Its flexible plans allow you to tailor your policy not just with optional add-ons but also your choice of cancellation cover and excess.
Once you look under the bonnet, though, you might find reasons to think twice. Australia Post's COVID-19 cover will cover you for overseas medical expenses and additional accommodation and travel expenses, but if you want cover for cancellation costs or cruise travel, you're out of luck. Pregnant travellers should read the fine print as well, as there are certain exclusions that could mean you're not covered, especially if you're having twins or travelling after your 23rd week of pregnancy.
If you're still not sure about Australia Post, you can compare other travel insurance companies here.
You have 60 days from your return date to submit your travel insurance claim. If you're still waiting on documentation to support your claim but worried you won't make the deadline, you can start the process and submit the additional documentation later.
Yes, you can buy travel insurance if you are already overseas with Australia Post. If you purchase an
Australia Post Travel Insurance policy on your trip after leaving Home, the cover is subject to a 3 day no-cover period. For other options, you can read our guide on Travel insurance for Australians already overseas.

We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market. Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them. Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category.
